Frozen
David walked into the diner, his gaze locking onto Monika. She froze, her face draining of color at the sight of him. The man sitting with her glanced over in confusion as David's voice trembled with a mix of anger and hurt.
"Monika, what is this? What’s going on?" Monika stammered, trying to explain the stranger was just a work colleague. But David couldn’t stay. His heart shattered as he stormed out, overwhelmed by a storm of emotions. *This can’t be real,* he thought, his mind spinning with doubts and questions he wasn’t ready to confront. Was she lying to him?
Returning Home
When Monika returned home, she tried to clarify the situation, explaining that the dinner was simply with a colleague. However, David wasn’t buying it.
"The connection I saw wasn’t innocent," he said, leaving Monika at a loss for words. She assured him it was nothing more than a friendly gesture, but David’s trust had already been broken. "His name is Greg. He’s a colleague going through a tough breakup, and I just wanted to help him out," she explained.
Confronting Monika
David’s voice cracked with hurt as he confronted Monika, his gaze intense. “I saw you holding hands. How am I supposed to trust you now?” His pain was clear, and Monika felt the weight of his words. Her eyes welled with tears, but her explanation seemed to fall short of reassuring him.
“I only held his hands to show him he could trust me,” Monika replied, her voice soft but steady. “I wanted him to feel comfortable opening up to me. That’s all, David.” Doubt clouded David’s mind as he wrestled with the conflicting thoughts. Could Monika’s words be true, or was he simply witnessing a moment between colleagues?
