First Day
David’s first day at the diner was nerve-wracking. He kept an eye on all the customers that came in, hoping that Monika and Greg would eventually make an appearance again. “Everything okay, new guy?” a coworker asked.
“Yeah, just getting the hang of things,” David replied. But he was not okay. All he was doing was keeping an eye on who was coming through the door. David felt a pang of sadness. "Is this what my life has become?" he wondered, determined to keep observing. The job was tough, but his resolve was tougher.
Endless Waiting
David spent days at The Cozy Corner, constantly hoping to see Monika and Greg again. He meticulously observed every customer, but they never appeared. "Did I make a mistake working here?" he wondered, doubt creeping in. He felt frustrated and exhausted, questioning his decisions.
Just as he was about to give up and quit, Monika and Greg walked in. David’s heart raced. "Finally," he thought, quickly hiding to watch them unnoticed.
Hiding in Plain Sight
David ducked behind the counter, peeking through the gaps. Monika and Greg seemed engrossed in conversation. "This is my chance," David thought, focusing intently. They didn’t notice him, continuing their discussion.
David noted their body language, searching for any signs of intimacy. "Please, just be colleagues," he silently hoped. Then, Greg leaned in and kissed Monika on the cheek. David’s heart sank. "I knew it. There’s more to this," he realized, feeling a wave of betrayal.
